Lat Pulldown Machines

A lat pulldown machine is a safe and efficient way to work the latissimus dorsi muscle, referred to more commonly as your lats, the large muscle, that spreads across and down your back. With lat pulldown workouts you can create a great posture, a strong spine, and a beautifully shaped back. We have a variety of machines to explore in this collection, with models from leading manufacturers such as Life Fitness, Spirit and  Nautilus. A lateral pulldown machine will bring you so many benefits which is why these machines are perfect for home gyms, commercial gyms, and more. They don’t just work the latissimus dorsi, but multiple other muscle groups too. The pull down works the teres major, the muscle near the bottom of the shoulder blade, the rhomboids, biceps, and abdominals, to name a few. This in turn can help you build a strong posture, as your back muscles grow stronger and your shoulders are pulled back and down.

A simple change of grip on the lat pull machine will affect different muscles. A wide grip will target your lats more and help build a wider back, while a close grip pulldown will target the biceps more. So, this one quite simple piece of strength equipment can work many muscles and in turn enable you to perfect other exercises, such as the pull-up.

When searching for a lat pulldown machine, there are a number of considerations to take into account. Quality of construction and materials is paramount — you will find that steel in particular is a good choice for stability. You should also check out the weight capacity of the machine, whether you are opting for plate loaded or selectorised. Poorer quality offerings tend to only offer a couple of hundred pounds of weight which won’t allow you to progress. If you want to buy stacked weights, also consider how easy it is to alter the weight. Look for quality on the seating and the handlebars as well and check out how easy they are to adjust to accommodate your height.

You may also want to think about whether you want to purchase one of our stand-alone units or a more multifunctional piece of equipment. For example, our power racks and cable crossover machines all have lat pulldown options.
