Merrithew Reformers
Merrithew was founded in 1988 by Lindsay and Moira Merrithew. They opened a Pilates studio in Toronto and then developed Pilates products to a wide community of users, both new and experienced to Pilates. The business is built on the belief that effective, responsible, and mindful exercise can create the foundations for a better life. They now offer a range of exercise equipment for the home and professional use as well as educational programmes.
To date the business has trained 70,000 partners worldwide with Pilates programmes like Stott Pilates, a contemporary approach to the teachings of Joseph Pilates. In 2020 they launched Merrithew Connect, a digital streaming platform which connects users to 200+ videos.
Merrithew Reformers
The Pilates reformer is probably the most well-known piece of Pilates kit invented by Joseph Pilates. The Merrithew reformer is well rated by both home and commercial users. The special features to note about the Merrithew reformers are; the patented rope system and self-locking cleats which allow for quick and easy rope adjustments; a high precision gearbox system, available in select packages; reformer springs made from the most durable and highest quality materials, nickel plated, and heat treated. Merrithew produces reformers for 3 different settings- the home, professional settings and rehab reformers which are of a higher carriage platform for improved accessibility.
Professional Merrithew Reformers
Professional Merrithew reformers are designed for use in studios and commercial gyms but can also be used in home settings. They will withstand years of use, can be bought 9” or 16” high, 22” or 24” carriage width, retractable rope systems and high precision springs. There are three different reformers on offer here they include the MPX reformer, the SPX Max reformer and the V2 Max Reformer.
The MPX reformer can really de described as the entry level commercial reformer. It is a multipurpose reformer for studios and hotels but again is popular in the home. It can be kept upright or repositioned on wheels. It is great for beginners through to advanced users and is made from high quality materials. The MPX with withstand high intensity use.
The SPX Max is designed for classes where there is a need to move machines around. It can be stacked up to 5 high and offers a vertical stand option. It weighs only 58kg and has the same features as the V2 but is lower on the ground and has a narrower frame. Its retractable rope system and vertical frame means it can offer the entire Cadillac in one place.
Finally, the V2 Max reformer is designed for health clubs, gyms and studios but again is often popular with people who want a high-end reformer in the home. It is the most popular reformer produced by Merrithew. It will facilitate hundreds of exercises and is great for group work or 1:1.
Stability Barres
Usually associated with ballet training the barre is not just for dance work but also can help tone, shape, and strengthen the body and help flexibility and balance. Merrithew barres are available freestanding and wall mounted; many can accommodate up to 3 users. For this reason they are great for both group training and 1:1 use.
