Upright Bikes

Upright bikes are very popular pieces of home gym equipment and not just due to their compact size. Using an upright exercise bike gives a great low impact cardio workout, plus the machines usually cost slightly less and have a smaller footprint than other equipment such as treadmills and rowers. With some great options and easy-to-use consoles, they are the 'go to' for many.

An upright exercise bike looks like a regular exercise bike, with pedals beneath you and handlebars. You simply sit on it and pedal, and the resistance will either come from a belt or will be magnetic resistance.

We stock an exciting range of upright bikes from brands that include Life FitnessSole and Spirit Fitness. An upright bike best mirrors the feeling of being on a real bike outdoors, so check out the ranges we sell and don’t forget to buy one of our great floor protection mats or invest in functional gym flooring. Our gym design service can help you choose the right options for your needs.

Upright exercise bikes

An upright stationary bike provides you with a low impact workout, so if you are worried about any of your joints, this could be great gym equipment for you. It also provides you with a great cardio workout as well as burning calories and building muscle. These bikes are particularly good at building gluteal muscles, hamstrings, abdominal muscles, and the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles in the lower leg.

Upright bikes are usually slightly more affordable than other pieces of equipment. And, as long as you know how to ride a bike, they can comfortably be used by beginners and advanced fitness enthusiasts as they mirror exactly what you would do on a real bike. Many also come with consoles which allow you to access many different programmes and capture important fitness data.

The right upright bike for you

To find the right bike for you, be sure to measure the space carefully where you want to place the bike so you are sure it will fit properly, ensuring there is space to get on and off. The rule of thumb for an upright bike is to allow as much space as a single bed.

Then, think about who is going to use it and what for as this will determine what features you want it to have. If you want to burn calories for example, you will require a heart rate monitor, or you may want to access lots of different programmes to give you variety. You’ll find a wide range of bikes available in this range, offering a variety of features.

Check what the frame is made of as the higher the quality the greater stability it will have. Also check the pedals and type of pedal straps. You might want an adjustable, comfortable seat and handlebars that can be adjusted, too. If you will need to move the bike, then check how easy it is to move around. Many of our upright stationary bike come with wheels.

Be sure to check what type of resistance the bike has. Ideally magnetic resistance is often more popular as it is a lot quieter and has better longevity. Finally, always make sure you have a good length of warranty should anything go wrong.
