Choosing Your Rack
A gym rack is a piece of weight training equipment that allows the user to perform various different strength exercises, acting as a mechanical spotter. The half rack is different to the power rack due to its open, smaller nature. This gives the user more options with exercises that may require more space, but still gives the option of a spotter. The exercises you can perform are similar with both a power rack and half squat rack, with the only key difference being training away from the rack when using a half rack.
Which Exercises?
Specific exercises that would be more suited to a half rack include but are not limited to; the barbell bent over row, barbell forward lunges and the clean and jerk exercise.
With a wide variety of different half racks, including brands such as Spirit and Hammer Strength we have a range from entry level through to high spec premium optoins. Models vary by size, base and platform inclusion. At the higher price range features include a cable system with attachments, various pull up options and multiple user stations.

Half Rack FAQs
In truth, there is no best, but there are benefits for both based on your requirements.
The Half Rack is perfect for smaller studios and gyms where space is a premium. With garages or home gyms, they offer all the benefits of safe and easy training options, whilst providing more room at the front for lunges, bench work and general movement.
The Power Rack (or Power Cage) is an enclosed cage, with safety bars or straps between the left and right uprights. All lifting is done within the cage so lifters who lift heavy, or are training on their own, can safely perform a full range of exercises.
