Hatton PU Maize Bag
Hatton PU Maize Bag
Often mistaken for a punch bag, the purpose of a Maize bag (or sometimes called a teardrop bag) is actually to help your timing, movement, rhythm and also peripheral sight. Primarily it's about working your defence technique including body movement around a central line that's travelled by the bag on it's long chain.
Why the Hatton Maize Bag?
As part of the high quality Hatton boxing range, this leather maize bag fits in perfectly with the other bags and gloves. Finished in black, with a 4 hook ceiling attachment the quality leather bag is filled with Hatton's own filling that ensures the bag keeps it's shape in use. It's often mistakenly hit like a punch bag, but this is strictly a balance, timing and footwork bag.
How to Use a Maize Bag
It's one of those bags in a boxing gym you want to rock up to and smack it as hard as you can. But that couldn't be further from it's intended use. The maize bag (or tear drop bag as also called) was designed to enhance your timing, rhythm and peripheral awareness. The bag is pulled back and let go to start it's swing. The boxer then needs to watch the arc and time the head and body movement out of the way, remembering it will come back along the same arc from behind you and so on.
Moving your feet, body and head movement can therefore help you to get a rhythm and also better understand the timing involved with a moving ball. The peripheral awareness comes from being aware of objects and their movement outside of your normal vision - vital for a boxer. You can see that all this information will help you in your training.
