Life Fitness Acquires Cybex
Life Fitness Acquires Cybex, in January this year Life Fitness announced that it has acquired Cybex, thus expanding its premium fitness equipment portfolio. The acquisition cost $195 million.
Life Fitness is headquarted near Chicago and is a division of Brunswick Corporation. It manufactures and sells cardio and strength equipment alongside game tables and furnishings to more than 120 countries. Its equipment is sold under the brand labels - Life Fitness, Hammer Strength, SCIFIT InMovement and Brunswick Billiards.
Cybex, headquartered in Medway, also offers a range of cardio and strength fitness equipment. The range includes treadmills and bikes as well as its prime product the Arc Trainer. The Arc, a cross trainer, allows the legs to travel in a biomechanically correct way, creating less stress on the knees and more activation of the glutes and hamstrings.
Why Buy Cybex?
For Life Fitness, the Cybex equipment further strengthens its portfolio. The Life Fitness president Chris Clawson said ‘“As we looked across the fitness industry, it was apparent that Cybex would be a great fit for Life Fitness because, like us, Cybex is committed to developing reliable, results-driven products that create exceptional customer experiences."
Having one less direct competitor will suit Life FItness who will now be able to focus primarily on probably it's main rival Technogym - who themselves have announced an IPO to raise funds to build their fitness range.
