Using a Speed Ball

These are simple training tips to help you get the best out of your speed ball. Also called a speed bag, the rhythmic pounding of the ball against the backboard or platform is quite addictive.

One way to start your speed ball addicition is to go with the three-rebound method. This just means that every time you hit the ball, it will rebound from the platform 3 times before you hit it again. So you hit the ball forward, rebound, comes back at you, rebound, goes forward and final rebound and as the ball comes back towards you you strike it again. And so on.

Hit the ball dead centre and it's then about getting your timing right in order to strike the ball at the same time each three rebounds. Start slowly and then you can work up to a faster rhythm as you get more adept.
